Requesting an Appointment
Process for requesting an appointment
To request an appointment for yourself, please contact us at referrals@melbourneprivatepsychology.com.au and provide your name and phone number.
If you have a GP Referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP), please attach a copy of your GP’s Referral Letter and MHTP to the email. The referral letter does not need to be addressed to us.
Once your request for an appointment has been received, we will aim to respond to your request within 3 - 5 business days.
What happens after I “Request for an Appointment”?
Once your request for an appointment has been received, we will attempt to make contact with you as soon as possible to arrange an appointment. We will aim to respond to your request within 3 - 5 business days.
Once an appointment is offered, you will be sent a welcome letter confirming your appointment details. Your welcome letter will also enclose a number of documents which we will require you to read, understand, complete, sign and return prior to your first appointment.
What do I need to do to prepare for my first appointment?
Prior to your appointment, it is imperative that you complete and return all the documentation that is provided to you.
The documentation that is provided to you enables us to collect personal and background information about you which will be necessary as part of the psychological assessment and treatment that is conducted.
The documentation will also contain our Practice’s Privacy Policy, Fees Policy, Cancellation Policy and Telehealth Policy which we will require you to understand and consent to prior to the engagement of our services.
What can I expect on my first appointment?
During your first appointment, your Psychologist will discuss and assess, amongst other things:
Your personal history and goals for treatment.
Your current mental health.
Any events that led you to seek treatment.
After assessing your situation, treatment goals will be discussed, along with a plan for achieving those goals.
How many sessions do I need?
This varies between individuals and is dependent on every individual’s reasons for treatment and goals of treatment.
Some individuals only require a handful of sessions, whilst others benefit from ongoing treatment throughout their life.
If you have been referred by your GP to obtain treatment through a Mental Health Treatment Plan, then your GP is able to refer you for treatment for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
