Process for Referrals
Process for referring lawyers
If you are referring a client for forensic treatment or assessment and do not yet have contact details for a specific psychologist, please email referrals@melbourneprivatepsychology.com.au with details regarding:
Contact details for the client, including their name and email/phone.
Whether treatment or assessment is being requested.
The nature and severity of the client’s charges.
The reason for treatment.
How the treatment will be funded (e.g. privately funded, VLA)
The date a report will be required (if applicable).
Once we receive those details, we will aim to respond to your referral within 3 - 5 business days. After we confirm the referral with you, we will contact the client directly to arrange an initial consultation to evaluate their treatment needs and suitability to our service. If the client is not deemed suitable, we will seek to provide an alternative referral.
Process for referring GPs
Step 1: Create a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) for the patient. The MHTP must stipulate a specific number of sessions with a maximum of 6 sessions as the initial course of treatment.
Medicare will fund a total of 10 sessions under the Better Access initiative per calendar year. As a result of COVID-19, until December 2022, a further 10 sessions will be funded by Medicare per calendar year.
Step 2: Send a referral letter and MHTP to referrals@melbourneprivatepsychology.com.au or fax to (03) 9958 5609 with details regarding:
Contact details for the patient, including their name and email/phone.
The reason for the referral.
The number of sessions approved under the Medicare scheme.
Once your referral has been received, we will attempt to make contact with your patient as soon as possible to arrange an appointment. We will aim to respond to your referral within 3 - 5 business days.
Step 3: At the conclusion of the initial course of treatment, if further treatment is needed, our Psychologist will write to you to request for a re-referral/further sessions. You can then provide a Referral Letter to our Psychologist specifying the further treatment needed. A new MHTP is not needed unless there is a change in condition.
